Medicine in the Moroccan Mountains

This all-immersive retreat began in January 2019 and continued on in January 2020, March 2022 and September 2023. The focus is on reconnecting with all the natural medicine that we have access to everyday: nature, ritual, meditation, mantra, breath, connection, plants and presence.

Morocco is a magical place, with influences from Berber, Arabian and European cultures that we explore throughout the retreat.

The south west of Morocco houses its native tree which is longed for all over the world. Argan, known as the gold that grows on trees, is grown, picked, ground and moulded by hand to create the precious argan oil. Here in this particular part of Morocco, argan is enjoyed unprocessed, undiluted and in its freshest form. It’s massaged on the skin, combed through hair and is used for (my favourite) dunking fresh bread into. UNESCO declared the area (more than 2,560,000 hectares, bordered by the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas Mountains) in which the Argan tree grows a “biosphere reserve”. It’s safe to say that every guest was and is 100% hooked on this absolutely delicious oil after learning (and smelling) the arduous work that goes into crafting it.

From a place of deep gratitude for our special surrounding, our practice began. Daily assortments of yoga were drawn together to gently open the body, mind and spirit to the power of healing available in each moment. Morning flows, afternoon focus and evening assimilation created the stepping stones toward transformation. As we delved into the science of the self, we peeled back layer after layer until we found a connection to the deepest, truest self, vulnerable and trusting in its transparancy.

This retreat includes sunrise and sunset yoga practices, mountain hikes, Argan adventures, souk excursions, a cooking class, bountiful brunches and grounding dinners alongside optional extras like traditional Moroccan hammam, massage and/or riding the local waves at the beach. Accommodation is in our beautiful, tranquil mountain Riad that allows the body, mind and spirit to quieten, reflect and tune inward.

Medicine in the Moroccan Mountains was truly magical. I feel nourished and looked after. It provided a safe space to grow and explore my yoga and meditation practice on a much deeper level. I cannot recommend this retreat enough.

Ella has an aura that makes you feel welcome and relaxed. Mix that with the location and magic of Morocco and friendly people, you cannot help but feel nurtured. A true experience – I never cease to be amazed about how much there still is to learn about yourself, people and the Universe.
